Kids and Complicated Families Group

Is your family anything other than a nuclear family? If the answer is yes then you have a complex family system my friend. The nuclear family is less and less common and while not having a traditional nuclear situation is becoming more common place, dealing with all the moving parts of a complicated family is still a source of stress and confusion for many kiddos- even in the best of situations.
Complicated families come in all sorts of shapes. Kids that enjoy this group may have experienced these things:
- divorce
- adoption
- violence between parents
- extended court battles
- death of a parent
- abandonment by a parent
- a caregiver suffering from alcoholism
- frequent moves
- separation from a caregiver
- post divorce dating
- continued parental conflict
- reunification
This group is to help support your child through all the complicated feelings that come from the above life experiences. This is not a place to bash parents to reinforce parental alienation. We at Greenway Therapy understand ALL parents love their kiddos and that the things that impact kids are usually unintended and unexpected. That being said, we have resources to support you too!!
What will we do together? Well, first we will get to know each other. All of the kids in this group will understand why they are there and will learn how to cope through developing relationships with each other but also through activities we do together that teach resilience, self-esteem and emotional regulation. After the group is over, kids are welcome to join again and Greenway will also provide free events like movie nights and game nights to foster continued connections.
Group details:
Ages: 10-16
When: 6 weeks, Saturdays at 11am (about) every other week, 90 minutes each
Dates: 9/4/21, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9
Where: Chesterfield Office
Leader: Kristen Neal, LPC and various interns
Cost: $45 a week
Closed Group- Meaning no new members allowed in until the next session starts
