Therapists are rolling out off the conveyor belt like hot cakes. We have really become a dime-a-dozen industry. Mental health care is rising in popularity, which is amazing, but with such a saturated industry coupled with the fact that therapists have a tendency to hide under rocks, it is harder and harder for people seeking a therapist to find a good one!
What is the definition of a good therapist?
The basics of being a good therapist is rooted in the ability of the therapist to foster a relationship with a client while keeping professional boundaries. Beyond doing that, in my humble opinion, a therapist needs to understand the human condition. Now that is a general statement, I know. This means they need to understand what human psychology is rooted in and see you through that lens. They also MUST be VERY aware of themselves as to not project their ”stuff” on to you.
A ”good” therapist is a well rounded person at work and in their personal life. They practice what they preach and stay up to date in regards to research, methodology, the community and ALWAYS challenge their own thought patterns. A good therapist is a life long learner and grower of self and others.
You know when you meet a “good” therapist because you can feel it. Something about them draws you in [when you are ready for them and the change they offer]. They challenge you and give you hope all at the same time.
Here is why Greenway Therapy is the Place to go for Counseling:
- Greenway staff is constantly collaborating on cases. We are a big family of therapists who have real passion and drive about the counseling craft. This means that your therapist isn’t living in a vacuum; they are exposed to new ideas and have resources that benefit you.
- We have a therapist for almost every need, and growing.
- Many of our therapists are transplants from the non-profit world where they received an abundance of training and intense clinical experience. What you bring to us feels like a cake walk to them in the private practice setting.
- We answer the phone and there are little wait times. This is because Greenway Therapy is always looking for the best and brightest, so as soon as one clinician’s caseload fills we are hiring. Open availability is also due to the fact that our therapists are not overworked, so they often will have a slot or two open for a new counseling client.
We hope to speak to you soon. Take a look at our services and clinicians pages to see how we can help.
